PHP 5.4 Support in Zend Studio

To install PHP 5.4:

1. From the Menu-bar, selectHelp | Welcome to open the Zend Studio Welcome screen.

   

2. From the plugin list on the right, mark the PHP 5.4 check-box, and click Apply changes.

3. When prompted, click Restart Now.
   Zend Studio restarts with  PHP 5.4.

To create a new local project:

1. Open Zend Studio.

2. Go to File | New | Local PHP Project.

3. Name your project, select Basic as your content choice. By default, php 5.4 is selected as the project version.

Note:

If Zend Server is not installed on your machine, the project will be created in a Workspace and not the htdocs folder.

4. Click Next.
   The Launch Setting dialog is displayed.

5. Select Launch CLI Application, and click Finish.
   Your new project is created and appears in the PHP ExplorerThe PHP Explorer is an internal file system browser, allowing you to view all PHP projects and files in your Workspace. view.

To get acquainted with PHP 5.4 features in Zend Studio:

1. In the PHP Explorer, select and open the 'index.php' file.

2. Insert the following code that includes the HelloWorld trait and  a class using the trait:

        echo implode ( [ 'h', 'e', 'l', 'l', 'o' ] );
    }
 
    public function sayHelloToo() {
        echo 'Hello World Too!';
    }
}
class TheWorldIsNotEnough

    public function sayHello() {
        echo 'Hello Universe!';
    }
}

3. In the next lines we are going to instantiate the class calling the trait method. First, insert the following code:

$o = new TheWorldIsNotEnough();

4. Press Enter,and type $o->.
   Content Assist displays, offering us the HelloWorld trait we defined in the first part of the code.

5. Select sayHelloToo(), and add a semicolon.

6. After completing steps 1-5, your code should display as follows:

Save your project before continuing on to the next steps of this tutorial.

To locally run and debug your application:

1. Right-click the 'index.php' file and select Run As | PHP CLI Application.
   The application opens in a Browser Output view. 

2. In the 'index.php' file, double-click the vertical ruler to the left of line 8 -or- select the line and go to Run | Toggle Breakpoint.
   A blue ball will appear, indicating that a Breakpoint has been set.
   What are Breakpoints?

3. Right-click the 'index.php' file and select Debug As | PHP CLI Application. When prompted, confirm switching to Debug perspective.
   The application is debugged and stops at the first line.

4. Click the Play button to continue debugging.
   Debugging stops at the set breakpoint.

Select the Breakpoints tab and view the set breakpoint. Double-click the breakpoint to locate the bug in the PHP Editor.

To create a Container:

1. Go to https://my.phpcloud.com/user/login, and access your Zend Developer Cloud account by entering your Zend account credentials.

2. Click My Containers  to view your container list, and then click the Create Container button.
   The Create Container page is displayed.

3. Enter the name and password for the new container, and select PHP 5.4 as the container version.

4. Click Create Container.
   The new Container is created and appears in the Container list.

You can access the Zend Developer Cloud by opening Zend Studio's internal Browser. To do this, just click the Browser icon on the tool-bar, and  enter the URL address above.

To deploy your application on the cloud:

1. In the PHP Explorer, right-click the project folder, and select Configure | Add Application Deployment Support.
   Deployment support is added to the project and the deployment.xmlAfter enabling deployment on your application, Zend-Studio creates a deployment.xml file that is displayed in the PHP Explorer view. This file is used to customize and define your deployment and to package the application. displays.

3. In the Testing area, click Deploy a PHP application.

4. In the Deploy PHP Application dialog, click Add New Target.

5. Select phpcloud, and click Next.

6. In the Target Details dialog, enter your Zend Account details and browse to, or generate a new, SSH private key.

7. After testing your connection to the target, click Finish.
   The Deploy PHP Application dialog is displayed again with the new target details updated.

8. Click Finish.
   Your application is deployed on the Zend Developer Cloud.

9. Monitor and debug your application in Zend Server by clicking the Access Zend Server button on the Application Container menu-bar.
