Working with Virtual Hosts

To add a virtual host:

1. In the UI, go to the Applications | Virtual Hosts page.
2. In the Action bar, click .
   The Add Virtual Host wizard is displayed.

3. Enter the virtual host properties:
   • Virtual Host Name - The virtual host's name or IP address.
   • Listen on Port - The Web server port the virtual host listens on.

     Important!

     Before you assign a virtual host to a specific port, make sure it is listened to by your web server.

4. Click Next.
   The SSL Configuration dialog is displayed.

5. If the virtual host does not use SSL security, skip to the next step.
   To enable SSL for the virtual host, select Enable SSL security on this virtual host, and enter the following details:
   • Certificate File Path - The path to the SSL certificate file.
   • Key File Path - The path to the SSL key file.
   • Chain File Path - The path to the SSL chain path (if you are using an Intermediate SSL certificate).
   • Certificate Application Name - The SSL certificate's application name.

   Important!

   Before adding an SSL-secured virtual host, you will need to enable SSL on your web server. For more information, see Enabling SSL for Apache.

   Important!

   Before adding an SSL-secured virtual host, you will need to enable SSL connections in Zend Server. For more information, see Enabling SSL Connections in Zend Server.
   

6. Click Next.
   Zend Server validates the SSL configurations, and the Template dialog is displayed.
   

7. If you wish to use the default virtual host configuration template, skip to the next step.
   To edit the default configuration template, select Edit the virtual host configuration template. For a description of the variables, see Virtual Host Template Legend.

   Warning!

   Editing the virtual host template could cause problems to your Web server's configuration. Proceed with extreme caution.

   Note:

   The DocumentRoot and Directory directives must only contain ${docroot} variable, and should not be modified within the vhost template. You can still use the ${docroot}, which corresponds to the Document Root defined in the application ZPK packages, within any other directive, for example a rewrite rule.

   NginX only: virtual hosts are using the 'root' directive, not DocumentRoot + Directory.

   Note:

   If you are not using the default port, edit the template by add ing a listen directive for the port you are using. e.g. "Listen 8080".

8. Click Next.
   Zend Server validates the virtual host configuration template. Zend Server will warn you if there are any errors with the template validation (if there are no errors, skip to the next step).

• To return to the configuration template - click Back, reconfigure the template, and click Next again.
• To ignore the warning - select the check-box below ('I understand that...'), and click Continue.

  Warning!

  Storing a virtual host with errors may cause problems to your Web server's configuration.

9. The Summary dialog is displayed.

10. Review a summary of the new virtual host, and click Finish.
    The new virtual host is stored, added to the Virtual Hosts list, and can now be used for deploying applications.
11. Restart Zend Server to make the virtual host available.
    

To edit a virtual host:

1. In the UI, go to the Applications | Virtual Hosts page.
2. In the Virtual Hosts list, select or hover over the virtual host you wish to edit, and in the Actions column, click .
   The Edit Virtual Host wizard is displayed.

3. The virtual host name and port cannot be changed. Click Next.
   The SSL Configuration dialog is displayed.

Important:

The configuration options on this dialog depend on the virtual host configuration. SSL can not be added to a virtual host which is not SSL-secured. Likewise, SSL security cannot be removed from an SSL- secured virtual host.

4. If the virtual host is not SSL-secured, skip to the next step.
   If the virtual host is SSL-secured, you can configure the SSL certificate file pathsapplication name:

• Certificate File Path - The path to the SSL certificate file.
• Key File Path - The path to the SSL key file.
• Chain File Path - The path to the SSL chain path (if you are using an Intermediate SSL certificate).
• Certificate Application Name - The SSL certificate's application name.

5. Click Next.
   The Template dialog is displayed.

6. To continue using the current template, select Use the current virtual host configuration template.
   To edit this template, select Edit the current configuration template, and apply your changes. For a description of the variables, see Virtual Host Template Legend.

   Warning!

   Editing the virtual host template could cause problems to your Web server's configuration. Proceed with extreme caution.

   Note:

7. Click Next.
   The Summary dialog is displayed.

8. Review a summary of your changes to the virtual host, and click Finish. .
   Zend Server will apply the changes and store the virtual host.
9. Restart Zend Server to make the virtual host available.

To redeploy a virtual host:

1. In the UI, go to the Applications | Virtual Hosts page.
2. In the Virtual Hosts list, select or hover over the virtual host you wish to edit, and in the Actions column, click .
3. When prompted, click OK.
   The virtual host is redeployed.

4. In the toolbar, the restart icon lights up , indicating a restart is needed to apply changes. Click to restart server and apply changes.
   For information on restarting in Zend Server, see Server Restart.

To remove a virtual host:

1. In the UI, go to the Applications | Virtual Hosts page.
2. In the Virtual Hosts list, select or hover over the virtual host you wish to edit, and in the Actions column, click .
3. When prompted, click OK to remove the virtual host.
   The virtual host is removed from Zend Server.

   Note:

   If an application is deployed on the virtual host you are attempting to remove, you will be asked to approve the removal of the application as well.

To enable deployment:

1. In the UI, go to the Applications | Virtual Hosts page.
2. In the Virtual Hosts list, select or hover over the system-defined virtual host you wish Zend Server to manage, and in the Actions column, click .
   The Enable Deployment dialog is displayed.

3. Add the specified line of code to the virtual host section in the Web server's configuration file (e.g., C:\Program Files (x86)\Zend\Apache24\conf\httpd.conf) as follows:

4. Click Close.

   The Properties column will now display the Deployment Enabled icon . Applications can now be deployed using this virtual host. See Deploying Applications for more information.

Important!

To enable deployment to a virtual host in a cluster, repeat this process for each server in the cluster.

To disable deployment:

1. In the UI, go to the Applications | Virtual Hosts page.
2. In the Virtual Hosts list, select or hover over the virtual host you wish Zend Server to manage, and in the Actions column, click .
   The Disable Deployment Notice is displayed.
3. Click Close.
4. To disable deployment to a virtual host in a cluster, repeat this process for each server in the cluster.
   

Note:

Disabling deployment will not revert the changes made to the virtual host template when enabling deployment. You can either manually revert these changes or keep them in place - they do not disrupt the operation of your server.

To filter virtual hosts:

1. Select Applications | Virtual Hosts to see the list of virtual hosts and the filtering options for that list. By default the Basic filter options appear at the top of the page.

2. From the Virtual Hosts page, you can select from any stored filters you have created to filter your Virtual Hosts list.
3. To create more advanced filters, click Advanced Filter in the top right. The advanced filtering options now appear, allowing you to create and save more complicated filters for your virtual hosts.
4. To save a filter, select an option from the SSL Status, Type, and Deployment menus, then click Save as. You are prompted to give your filter a name. After you name your filter, it is available in the Stored filters menu.

5. To remove a filter, select the filter from the Stored filters menu and click Delete. You are prompted to confirm the removal of the selected filter.

To clear all selected filters, click Reset. All options are reset to their defaults.
