Working with Code Tracing

To enable/disable event-triggered code tracing:

1. In the UI, go to Configurations | Monitor.
2. In the Code Tracing Settings area, set the code tracing activation options:

   • Enable Code Tracing - Code tracing is available for events.
     

   • Disable Code Tracing - Code tracing is not available for events.

3. Click Save.

4. In the toolbar, the restart icon lights up , indicating a restart is needed to apply changes. Click to restart server and apply changes.
   For information on restarting in Zend Server, see Server Restart.

Important!

If enabled, you will also need to activate Code Tracing for the specific monitoring rule from the New/Edit Monitoring Rules page. For more information, see Activating Code Tracing for a Monitoring Rule below, and Working with Monitoring Rules.

To activate Code Tracing for a monitoring rule:

1. In the UI, go to the Applications | Monitoring Rules page. If you have already enabled Code Tracing, skip to step 7.
2. In the Code Tracing Settings area, select Enable Code Tracing.
3. On the right side of the Action bar, click the Event Tracing Mode which is currently displayed as 'Disabled'.
   The Event Tracing Mode drop-down menu is displayed.
4. Click the drop-down menu, and select Enabled.
5. Click .

6. In the toolbar, the restart icon lights up , indicating a restart is needed to apply changes. Click to restart server and apply changes.
   For information on restarting in Zend Server, see Server Restart.

   Code Tracing for events is enabled.

   Tip!

   Code Tracing for events can also be enabled from the Settings page. For more information, see Enabling/Disabling Code Tracing above.

7. From the Rule Groups list, select the relevant rule group and rule.
   The New/Edit Monitoring Rules page is displayed.
8. Select the trigger container you wish to edit, and select Trace code.
9. Select an activation option:
   • Activate Code Tracing for a set amount of time (120 seconds by default) for triggered events (better for production environments).
   • Always activate Code Tracing for triggered events (better for development and staging environments).
10. In the Action bar, click .

To manually trigger code tracing on a specific URL:

1. In the UI, go to Overview | Code Tracing.

2. Enter the URL in the "Add new URL to trace" field.

   Note:

   The URL has to be running on the server running Zend Server for IBMi.

3. Click the Request Type drop-down menu, and select the request type you wish Zend Server to use for the trace.
4. Click .
   

The trace information will be collected and added to the list in the Code Tracing page.
